Ipswich will be without Pablo Counago (ankle) and fellow striker Jon Stead who is cup-tied for the Carling Cup third round match at home to Wigan.
But Alex Bruce, son of Wigan boss Steve, may make a first start since his red card against Wolves last month.
Latics boss Steve Bruce has promised to select a strong squad for the match.
That could mean recalls for Michael Brown and Lee Cattermole, who could return to the line-up after missing Sunday's draw at Tottenham.
Ipswich boss Jim Magilton told BBC Radio Suffolk:
"For us our realistic ambitions lie with the league but there is an outside chance we could go all the way in this competition.
"We are at home we are going to try and win the game, if we progress through this one it'll be a major fillip for everyone.
"We have to play very well and they have to have an off day but over the years there have been major upsets."
